So I am really happy for basketball today, and I usually don't say that after the Knicks stop playing basketball.
The Golden State Warriors, long the most mediocre team in the NBA, knocked off the 67 win Dallas Mavericks in Rd 1 of the NBA playoffs. The first 8 seed to knock off a 1 seed, in a 7 game series (anyone recall when the knicks did this to the Celtics in Game 5 at Boston Garden in 1989? - remeber that huge Patrick Ewing 3 pointer from the corner). Anyway, its true the Warriors have given me a reason to watch the NBA playoffs, they are just too damn exciting. Check out Matt Barnes (a former knick) serve up a facial last night as the Warriors put the game away. Big time kudos to the Golden State fans, unbelievable, they willed the team to win, probably the best fan performance since the 90's Knicks Bulls contests at MSG. I loved Sports Guys take on the impact of the crowd, comparing Knicks and Warriors Fans.
As for the Mavericks, congratulations Dallas, you are now the equivalent of the 90's Buffalo Bills, only worse, cause you have only been to the finals once. Most easily rattled playoff team ever.
In the end I like Golden State in the 2nd round against the Rockets or the Jazz, and then we can watch Steve Nash in an epic matchup with Baron Davis, with the Suns proving why they are the best team in the NBA.
Anyway...a good weekend to you all....more random shit next week.....promise...
